What size are cribbage pegs?
Short answer: 1/8" — about 3.2 mm. That covers almost every cribbage board made today. If yours is older, handmade or unusually large, it might be 3/16" or 1/4", and it is worth checking before you order anything.
The three sizes you will actually meet
| Peg size | Metric | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| 1/8" (standard) | 3.2 mm | Nearly every board sold today, including every mass-produced one we have come across |
| 3/16" | 4.8 mm | Older boards, some handmade and hardwood boards |
| 1/4" | 6.4 mm | Oversized, novelty and some tournament or table-top boards |
Peg length varies a lot more than diameter, and it matters far less. What decides whether a peg fits is the diameter of the shaft against the diameter of the hole.
Three ways to check your board
- Try a drill bit. The quickest test. If a 1/8" bit drops into a hole without forcing, you have a standard board.
- Measure a peg you already own. Put a ruler or a set of callipers against the shaft — not the head. 3 mm means standard.
- Photograph it. Lay a peg beside a ruler, take a picture, and email it to us. We would rather tell you the truth before you order than post you something that does not fit.
Are metal and plastic pegs different sizes?
Usually not. Metal, wood and plastic pegs are nearly all made for 1/8" holes. The material changes the weight and the feel, not the fit. Ours are 3D printed in PLA, which is light, does not bend like thin metal, and takes colour properly.
What Crib Pegz makes
Every peg in the shop is printed to standard 1/8", with the name of your choice on it. If your board needs 3/16" or 1/4", we can do it — that goes through The 29 Club, where you tell us the hole size and we print to match rather than guessing.
